November 2011

Spring term is gradually drawing to a close and as we are preparing for Christmas, a few observations. We are about to end our second year at the Rosny LINC. We now have a signed Agreement on the Conditions of Use for Rosny LINC by U3A Clarence, which recognises our special relationship with the LINC facilities, and our mutual obligations. The morning teas have been really chatty affairs (except for the bell!), and we are very pleased we were able to continue to incorporate this as a priority in our operations at the LINC.
Again this year, we will not hold Summer lectures over the break. We realise that again some of you will be a little disappointed about this decision. We have included information about Hobart U3A's Summer lecture program open to the public during the break. Lectures will start on Wednesday, 14th March 2012, with the AGM on Thursday 01 March, 2012. We urge more of you to become involved in Committee Membership to ensure continuity and good leadership of our U3A into the future. A few of the old hands will be happy to pass over the reins during the next twelve months.
Thanks go to my Committee for 2011: Sondra Taylor, Joan Carr, Joan Evershed and Terry Mahoney, Robert Hughes and Graeme Lindridge, and especial thanks to Lesley Thomson our Program officer, and Lyn Edgerton, our Social Events coordinator.
We are also indebted to Frank Brown, John Hooper, Lorna Turner and Pat Jeffery for their 'non-committee' help setting up each day. We have revisited our Recognition of Service to U3A Clarence Inc Awards, and will hear more about these next year.
Once again, we are very appreciative of Rhona Lindsay. LINC Manager, Julia Goss and the LINC staff for their responsiveness to our needs. I trust you will continue to enjoy your partnership with U3A Clarence as we become a feature of the scene at Rosny. Be sure to tell your friends about us. The library staff have copies of an Information Handout, and copies of this Newsletter will also be available from them.
I am looking forward to seeing you at the Christmas Luncheon on 2011, which will be subsidised to keep the cost at $25 this year. Also, we have reduced annual fees for 2012 to $40 each.

President
